My Response to Bourne

"But if freedom means a democratic cooperation in determining the ideals and purposes and industrial and social institutions of a country, then the immigrant has not been free, and the Anglo-Saxon element is guilty of just what every dominant race is guilty of in every European country: the imposition of its culture upon the minority people"
Bourne argues that if a country determined the beliefs, work or which institutions are acceptable for its immigrants, they are not free because their right to choose has been removed. He goes on to blame the Anglo Saxon that believes the white race is superior of committing this wrongful act.
I agree with Bourne because so many immigrants have come and still migrate to America for freedom to be who they prefer to be. Whether it’s to practice the religion that they were persecuted for or to live as a transgender, it is freedom if we don't prohibited them or violate their private. If we don't let them develop their own lifestyle; we too are guilty of what we fight wars over and protest about Limiting Human Rights.

I think that Americans can be very narrow-minded and need to extend our thinking. Also even more importantly as people we should learn other cultures because there are things that can be helpful to improve our lives in areas such as; health. For instance, in Japan the Okinawans follow an old proverb that says “eat until you are 80% full” instead of gorging" which has been working for them apparently because they are living the longest in the world. It be honest being “ American” in its simplest form means that you live on the continent of North American, we make up ourselves through our family, values, experiences and believes.

  1. I like your response I agree with you when you say “If we don't let them develop their own lifestyle; we too are guilty of what we fight wars over and protest about Limiting Human Rights”. As Americans in society we have to respect and appreciate other individuals and their beliefs and cultures. I feel if others bring their lifestyles to America it makes America a better society it makes the country diverse and it creates more and more people to migrate here. You also talked about us as Americans going to war for our rights and you’re correct. Americans go to war all the time over a sense of freedom or expressing something we believe in. So who is America to deny other individuals the right to express their different lifestyles at the end of the day we are a free country for a reason.

  2. i agree with your response, immigrant have and will be categorized and label constantly. they help build this country called America. Americans can be narrow minded, we dont know the deeper root why immigrant migrate could be because of warfare, better education, medical purposes etc. Its a country of many opportunities..

  4. I really like what you said, especially about learning new things from different culture. Ancients ideas of living healthy has been pasted from generation and generations different in different cultures, these idea can really help us improve on living healthy life style.

  5. Yes I also agree that Americans should expand their way of thinking. For example, a lot Americans believe that all Hispanic are the same, which we are not because the Spanish language spoken in Peru might be completely different from what Spanish spoken in Cuba because even though we speak "Spanish" we use different words and meanings. Somehow U.S have tried for immigrants to preserve things that belong to their culture for example language. Have you notice that there is usually translators available when immigrants go to certain places? however, these services are not always available as if immigrants are being force to speak the English language, which makes me think if Americans are trying to be the dominant culture. The reason why immigrants developed their communities is to support themselves and usually help each other out while trying to be part of the American society without forgetting about their country of origin/culture.

  6. I agree with your comments as history has proven America was influenced by immigrate so for the country to be hypocritical of others culture is very ignorant. We should learn to accept each other no matter what our cultures, we are all striving for the same purpose in life, better living condition, health care and higher our education.
